About us

Craobh Fred Finn is a branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, based in Sligo town. Our team of teachers and instructors provide traditional Irish music tuition to children and adults alike across a range of instruments including fiddle, flute, harp, concertina, banjo, bodhrán and tin whistle. Classes in traditional singing are also provided.

Adult classes are also provided in string and wind instruments. In addition, we provide lots of ancillary events, such as Grúpa Ceoil, concerts and competitions but the primary ethos of our branch is to encourage the participation ofmusicians in traditional Irish music to every level, whether that be solely for enjoyment or with a view to involvement in competition at local, national or indeed international level.

All of our instructors are either past pupils themselves or are respected musicians in their own right. Our music programme is supervised by Director of Music, the renowned flute player June McCormack, who, along with her team of tutors, ensures that our students learn music in an enjoyable way.

In addition to the weekly classes young people get an opportunity to participate in céili bands, grupaí cheoil and pléaracha groups. Many of our young musicians participate in the traditional music examinations (SCT) every year. They are also prepared for participation in the County Fleadh and for Feiseanna and many of them go on to participate at Provincial level.
